REFLECTION BY THE SEA IN ROCKPORT
MUTABILITY
Mixed along the earth's age sand
Along a Northern beach
Are fragments of another time
Once possessors of this land.
Whose blue tinged Canton ware?
Given in love?
Possessed in pride?
Now lies along the lonely strand.
Perhaps they sleep
In
the churchyard above the beach
A
Whipple, a Haskel, a Poole, or a Tar?
They keep their silence also
Their secrets of their shattered life's vessel
As
the shattered pottery
Scattered by the immutable sea.

VITAE SUMMA BREVIS - Life fleeting and short
They are not long, the weeping and the laughing,
Love and desire and hate:
I think that have no portion in us after
We pass the gate.
They are not long the days of wine and roses;
Out of a misty dream
Our path emerges for a while, then closes
Within a dream

SOLITUDE
All men's miseries derive from not being able to sit in a quiet room alone.
Blaise Pascal - pensées
